Woosong University Course Policy

You are expected to behave appropriately in your class.  This means:

·         Turn off your cellular phone.
·         Pay attention to the teacher.
·         Do no talk when your teacher or your classmates are talking.
·         Participate in class.  If the teacher asks you a question, try to answer it.
·         Bring your book, pencil, paper and dictionary to class every day.  You cannot learn English if you do not have a book.

Attendance:

It is university policy that students attend every class.  Failure to attend class will lower a student's final grade.  No one can expect to improve their English if they do not come to class.  If a student is late for class 3 times, it will count as 1 absence.  If a student is absent, they MUST talk to their Department Head and obtain an excused absence form.   That form must then be given to the instructor.
   If a student accumulates more than 5 unexcused absences in one semester, the student will automatically receive an “F.” Students should check their attendance as often as possible to avoid mistakes.
  Only absences for sickness, car accidents, interviews for military service, training for army reservists, departmental events, and mourning will be considered with documentary evidence. Students can get up to TWO CLASSES excused per semester within a week of the absence.  Any further excuses are up to the instructor's discretion.

Grading:

Attendance = 20%
Homework/Participation = 20%
Midterm  = 20%
Final exam = 40% (Infomercial = 20%; Resume = 20%)

Grading Distribution Scale (Curving)

This class will use the grade distribution scale in accordance with the University policy. It is applicable to all freshman, sophomore and junior classes offered by the Dept. of General English regardless of class size.

A+ ~ A0: 30% or below
B+ ~ B0: 40% or below
C+ ~ D0: 30% or above
F: Class teacher’s discretion

Exams:

There are two scheduled exams for this course, namely: Midterm Exam and Final Exam.  Both exams are task based.  Your instructor may also choose to give tests and/or quizzes at other times during the semester, which are to be counted as part of your homework/participation grade.
